The Joe Barnhart Lectureship Series
Every spring, JBSP presents a local or national figure to inspire the entire student body in their post-secondary endeavors. At the assembly, the four finalists for the Barnhart Scholars Award are presented prior to the lecture and the winner is announced at the assembly following the lecture.

Florette Elizabeth (Libby) Hitchcock Spires

Libby was born and raised in Beeville, Texas. She is the daughter of Johnny Wayne and Sarah Hitchcock. She attended elementary school and junior high at St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Spires graduated from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi with her BBA in Accounting and is a 1984 graduate of A.C. Jones High School.
She is a successful licensed CPA in Beeville. She has served on the board of directors for the Corpus Christi Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs and is a graduate of Leadership Corpus Christi.
Spires has held many positions on several local boards, such as Hall-Rialto Preservation Association, Beeville Rotary Club, Beeville Country Club, St. Joseph School Board, St. Joseph Parish Finance Committee, Beeville/Bee County Chamber of Commerce, City of Beeville – City Council, City of Beeville – Beeville Economic Improvement Corporation, Coastal Bend College Foundation, Rosetta Club of Beeville, Bee County Western Week Committee, and the Soroptimist International of Beeville.
Libby is married to Danny A. Spires and has three children, Trey, Claire, and Olivia, and three grandchildren, Avery, Kathleen, and Hannah. Trey and Claire are both alumni of A. C. Jones High School. Olivia is currently a senior at ACJ.
