FAFSA®

Texas requires that all students submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) to graduate from high school. As students prepare for college or career school, it is important to explore how financial aid works, learn about the types of aid, and find out if you’re eligible. Colleges use FAFSA® data to determine federal aid eligibility. Many states and colleges use FAFSA® data to award their own aid.

Starting on October 1, 2024 the U.S. Department of Education will release the 2025-26 FAFSA® form for testing with a limited set of students and institutions. The Department will make the application available to all students on or before December 1, 2024.

The Joe Barnhart Scholarship Program works with students to make sure their applications are complete and submitted properly. To complete the FAFSA® application, the following forms are required:

  • FSA ID for both student and a parent

  • 2023 Tax return and W2 for parent(s) and student, if student was employed in 2023

  • Alien registration number or permanent residence card, if not a US Citizen
